The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund

The Single Parent Scholarships are awarded to eligible single parents residing at Arkansas.

The Jeanette Rankin Foundation Scholarship Program

Since 1978, the Jeannette Rankin Foundation has awarded scholarships to help over 500 women attend college. Applications are available from November through February each year. While this scholarship is not specifically targeted at single moms, they certainly would be subset of the “single women 35 and older” category.

Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation for Low-Income Women and Children

Established in 2003, the Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation aims to carry on some of Congresswoman Mink’s most ardent commitments: educational access, support, and opportunity for low-income women, especially mothers; and educational enrichment for children.

The R.O.S.E. Scholarship

The R.O.S.E. Scholarship recognizes women who have broken the cycle of domestic violence. The R.O.S.E. Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women survivors of domestic violence who attend colleges or universities in the New England area. The scholarships are primarily awarded to women who have successfully completed one full year of undergraduate studies, and will be applied to tuition and expenses at any accredited college or university in the Northeast.

W.I.S.P. Change Your World Scholarship

In March 2007 Doris Buffett, president and founder, announced a new scholarship program of the Sunshine Lady Foundation for the sons and daughters of graduates of the Women’s Independence Scholarship Program (WISP). The folks at WISP believe that every student who is capable, motivated and willing to work hard should have the opportunity to earn a college degree. These scholarships are for those who show the greatest promise of success, have financial need and have made education their number one priority.

Everyone should attend college and education should be within reach for every american individual. But in times like this, where recession rules the headlines and increasing costs are buzzwords, it is difficult for families to fund college education for their children. For single mothers, it becomes more than a daunting task for providing necessary education for their kids.

But being a single mom does not mean you have to forego the simple pleasures of life and most importantly, your education. There is always aids and financial aids available for single mothers and women scholarships in general. You just have to know where to look. If you know there there is no finances available for you to continue or pursue your education, you should probably apply for a scholarships or for a educational grant.

The idea of a scholarship is that all your college expenses will be paid for and you will not have to pay anyone back anything ever. That  being the fact, you are recommended to check all avenues to find the best possible offer of scholarships for women and single mothers before you apply or for that matter, think about student loans.

We all know the hardships of being a mother and raising a child single handedly. But the fact is, when you are gone for your education, you need someone to take care of your child. Sometimes you are lucky to have a relative who will step in for you, otherwise, you will have to cover the childs expenses of being looked after.
